Bk/Icon/Outlook geek tip...

This is also posted on the pimlico group.  Not specific to IconMgr,
but might be usefull IconMgr users nonetheless... :-)

For those of us that enter most of our work appointments and todos via
Outlook, there is a way to set unique-to-DateBk attributes while in
Outlook.  Of course all of us know about the "@@@PF@@@@@@@@@@" in the
note field that shows up in Outlook.  This is where Bk `records'
unique-to-Bk attributes.  Logic dictates that one can set an attribute
in Bk, then sync, then open the item in Outlook and copy the @@@@@@
and reuse it at will with any new items—which you can.  The trick to
making this user-friendly, is to employ the `autocorrect' feature in
Outlook.  This is the MS Office feature that has crippled an entire
generation's ability to spel.  You type in "recieve" then Outlook (or
Word) automatically changes it to "receive" as soon as you hit the
space bar.  Office comes with a long preset list of frequently
misspelled words, but you can program in your own autocorrects by
going to menu > tools > autocorrect options.  From there you type into
the "Replace" field  something like "smileyicon," then in the "With"
field you put the @@@@@@@@@ that you copied-n-pasted from the
appointment with the smiley face icon that you created in Bk, then
synced to Outlook.   I just started doing this, so I'm still
experimenting.  I do use Chapura's PocketMirrorTX, but I think any
conduit should work.  I've successfully set (via Outlook) icons on
appointments, icons on todos, fonts on appointments, `advance by 50
days,' on appointments, and `make into a floating event' on both timed
and untimed appointments!  Remember to put the @@@@@@ BEFORE any notes
that you have in the item's note field.  If it's put after, Bk won't
see the @@@@.  You can put any not-unique-to-DateBk attribute, such as
location, category, and priority and then insert another Bk feature
via autocorrect and all the info will transfer properly.  Obviously,
if you create an item in Bk, with BK features, then edit it in
Outlook, the @@@@@ will overwrite any Bk features with whatever you
put in.  It does take a LONG time to set up all these autocorrects.  I
recommend doing it like this… Go back in time to some empty date and
inBk's  Day view use each time slot for an appointment.  Make the
description the name of the attribute.  I mostly just did different
icons.  Icons for apps start with "-a" and ones for todos start with
"-t."   Each of my icons can be described with two words so I took the
first to letters for each word.  Hence my `insert-a
smiley-face-icon-into-an-appontment' description is "-asmfa."  If I
type "-asmfa" into an app's note field, as soon as I hit the space bar
it replaces `-asmfa' with `@@@@@@NK@@@@@@@@@' or whatever.  Got it? 
Now sync and go to Outlook and go to the right date where all of these
are.  Double click to open one of the appointments.  Before you copy
the @@@@@@@, right-click on the toolbar and choose "Customize…"  now
find the tools buttons and drag the autocorrect button right on to the
tool bar.  Okay?  Now when you open an appointment just
click-n-drag-select the @@@@@@@ that's in the note field and when you
click the autocorrect button the @@@@@@ will magically appear in the
"With" field. You don't need to copy—it's automatic.  Just type the
name of the autocorrect, `-asmfa' or whatever and press enter twice. 
Repeat with all the other items.  Lastly, if I may be so bold as to
recommend a harmless little prank to play on roommates and coworkers…
use the autocorrect feature on their computer.  Fix it so that when
ever they type a period "." It changes into " in bed!"  Then "in bed!"
Will appear at the end of any sentence they write in bed!  It sounds
dumb, but in practice is pretty funny in bed!  Hope this helps in bed!
