I wonder if the ACCESS Garnet VM from ALP will run on the Pre under WebOS?  :-)

Let's see: Palm tried to roll their own multitasking, multithreading
kernel for Palm OS in Cobalt, and it never saw daylight.  Access
announced plans to use Cobalt as a UI layer on top of a Linux kernel,
but what they finally wound up with was a Garnet VM running under
Linux.  It appears Palm itself came to the same conclusion.  It looks
like it's just not feasible to take Palm OS and replace the
single-tasking kernel with  a multitasking kernel.  I can't say I'm
surprised.  Palm OS can be thought of as a database manager more than
an OS.  The whole Palm Database format with only data and programs in
that format able to reside in RAM is an outgrowth, and a major
obstacle to extension.  Encapsulating the whole thing as a VM like
Access did may be the only feasible solution.
