Re: Descrambling TX

Hi, all -

When we last saw our hero, or actually when I last brought this up to 
the list, I had the tiger by the tail - or so I thought.

Recall:  I have a Palm TX, and have been happily running pedit.  The 
system got corrupted at some point - most troublesome being the 
Memo32DB, and have not been able to make it stable since.

I have tried systematically reinstalling applications one at a time to 
see who causes the problem, but did find one case where the 
Memo32DB-HIST file was the culprit - reloading it caused the device to 
immediately start crashing.

As intermittently unstable as the device has become, I start to wonder 
if it's not a hardware problem underneath.  The unit is a bit over a 
year (one replacement).  Environmentally, I'm near Winnipeg and it's 
been a lot of days near -30C (though it usually lives in a pocket in a 
layer that is much warmer than that!)  The humidity is fairly high, and 
I used to do ESD control at an electronics manufacturer, so I've taken a 
few precautions (even putting a dryer sheet in the case) that should 
help mitigate any static related issues.

I can't trust the device enough to store data (I keep logs and journals 
in pedit) for more than a few hours, though I never know how much 
activity is going to happen before it goes into the reset cycle. 
Updating an NVBackup set after every text entry is *not* a solution! 
And it seems that stuff may be not saving that way either - sometimes on 
restore I get "- empty" next to certain files, though I can't tell if 
they're corrupted on the card (no errors during backup) or if it happens 
during restore.

Does anyone have experience with a TX becoming unstable?  It's starting 
to become enough of a time sink that I don't have a platform on which to 
run pEdit or have a useful PDA.  Any tips on doing a Really Hard Reset?! 
  I'm past warranty, and wonder if finding another unit might not be the 
better solution.

Of course this list is only one source of info I'm using, but the high 
signal to noise ratio here and high Information Quotient makes me ask 
here again.
