I suspect some other cause. I don't know enough about how the OS keeps
track of files or what kind of hardware memory management is going on.
I'm skeptical of people who say they find bad memory, but it would
certainly fit my scenario.
I'd read some of the developer docs, but I usually do that on my Palm... ;)

Yes - I have enough backups that the data isn't actually lost. Putting
together a working copy, however, seems to be non-trivial...
