as there seems to be a few ppl here that appear to travel:

I currently use T3 and TX with a 'cheap' Motorola L2 GSM/GPRS phone, that
works well: SMS, phone dialling, net access

perhaps the only thing missing is MMS on the Palm

I get 5MB of data for $5 which suits my current needs.
I noticed my carrier now offers 150MB for $10... which sounds tempting...
but, to process 150MB at GPRS speeds sound somewhat too challenging...

hence, I'm tempted to get a new phone...

what phones do ppl use successfully with palm PDAs ?

I'm tempted to go with Motorola RAZR2 9, as, in my limited experience,
Motorola always worked for me, starting with analogues (AMPS ?) StartTac
and data cable to RS232 port, then, IrDa to a Palm, BT to a Palm

and, with Motorola, I was never forced to buy 'data software', in worst
case, a terminal app and a couple of 'AT something' always did the trick

so I'm curious of what ppl found works or doesn't
(or, does everyone uses Treos now??)
