Good Palm Resource - repairs

It's been a while since I was here.  I'd like to report a very happy 
conclusion to a repair situation I had.

I have a Palm TX, which I love.  I prefer having a separate PDA and cell 
phone, but then I usually run about 5 years behind the curve. ;)  I 
*really* didn't want to change platforms.

The TX worked well for close to 2 years (though I did take advantage of 
the warranty and get the screen replaced before the end of the first 
year.)  Then I developed a little problem with the Palm Keyboard, but 
also got that resolved.  (That took *way* to long, as they were moving 
Canadian service to Canada.)

When I got the keyboard back, you might recall a thread from the first 
of the year where I had problems losing data - seemed to stem from a 
corrupt p32 memo (but didn't make sense).

Found a guy, Chris Short, also known as PalmDr - you can search "Palm 
Repair" on e-bay (of all places).  He often sells refurbished units 
there, as well as a repair service for $1.

He's a one-man shop, a straight shooter, and offers really good service. 
  He knew that it might well be a cold solder joint that the TX 
motherboard is prone to developing, or the MB itself.  He contacts you 
once diagnosis is complete, so you can approve or get the unit returned 
(for I think $5).

I sent it to him, he fixed the board, and I took the opportunity to have 
him put in a glass base digitizer, a replacement power switch (the old 
ones tend toward mechanical failure, which I was beginning to see), a 
microphone upgrade (all the hardware except the mic is in place on the 
TX), and a new battery.  You can also get some OS/software upgrades. 
This all came to about $125, which included free return (international 
to Canada) postal shipping.  The whole business took 2 weeks or so, door 
to door.

So, now I'm back in the saddle with pEdit, and couldn't be happier!
