BTW Bjoern,

Can I rope you into doing some translation duties for the new PDesk?

What I am writing specifically is a framework to edit outlines of pretty
much any form, and PDesk would be one of those types it could edit...

Anyway, I need to make sure that I can handle internationalization before
I get too much farther...

You will have to forgive the rest, it's not really organized that well...

So this is basically how it works...

There are plugins at a high level to handle various file types, PDesk's
(new XML) file format would be one of them. There could be other file
type plugins to handle other sorts of outlines.

Then, inside the PDesk plugin it has sub-plugins that handle each sort of
item that you can have inside PDesk, so there would be one for a task, one
for an info type and so on, including say new ones like pictures.

I did that so that people other than me could write plugins to extend the
PDesk file format for things like pictures and whatever else makes people
happy.

The rewritten Progect would also have plugins :), that way people could
write plugins for it to handle the new PDesk types...

Another goal would be that each language could reformat the screens
whatever way they saw fit. This should fix some of the problems we had
with Progect, where the formatting was simply not working.

What I need, is to make sure that three things are internationalizable:

1) The outliner framework application
2) The plugins for things like PDesk file formats
3) The sub-plugins that the PDesk file format uses

I have started to make the #3 plugins internationalizable and will have to
work on the rest of the numbered points.

So I was wondering if I could send you an example resource file to
translate. But I was also wondering if you could try things out and make
sure things work for you at a language level by running the new
application.

The resource file will be a custom format in XML that I use with some XSLT
stylesheets that convert the custom format into a wxWidgets compatible xrc
file format.

This seriously simplifies creating the screens for the plugins.

The custom file format is designed to be as simple to edit by hand as
possible.

I don't think I have the format documented anywhere, but we can talk if
you are having issues.

This is just the beginning so you would have both input and frustration
:).

Are you available?

If so, I will send you an example plugin screen file to translate.

And then, shortly after I would have to send you the Python files to run
the new PDesk and so on.

I don't really see this consuming a lot of your time, there aren't that
many screens yet, and we mostly have to prove we *can* translate it
without a huge amount of grief than do the whole application at this
point.

Have Fun
Rick
