Bingo! Found the answer to my own question (always happens after posting the question....) In each NG preferences, of the 4 choices for Polling: (nothing, unpolled, last, next) I was using unpolled. Didn't work right. I changed to either "last" or "next" and all works again. Hope this may save someone some time and effort in the future....
