These are the preferences I use:
Global Poll Pref: New articles, Post News, Post eMail, Conduit
Server Pref: 1:news.arcor.de, 120sec timeout, port 119, poll, supply 
outgoing MIDs, authName ..., auth pass defines, auth yes
Newsgroup pref: display subject, poll next 999 art., from 
1:news.arcor.de, next Art to poll 1, max 32kB, max 0 lines/art, max 
0 NGs/art, thread w/o caching
