Re: Yanoff's new Christian .sig

I stand by everything I wrote and would like to clarify a couple of 
things:

The original default .sig, which I consider mildly vulgar and thus 
inapproprate (certainly more offensive to more users than the 
modified .sig could ever possibly be) was:

   Piloteers do it on the road.

The new philadelphic Christian .sig is:

   John 3:16 says Jesus saves!

I am even saving 1 byte of RAM over the original!  Keep in mind, I 
didn't let the original .sig bother me or keep me from using Yanoff.  
I, like everybody else, just changed it.  I never even considered 
mentioning it to Matthias because, as we (should) all know, it is 
*intended* to be funny and surely was not in any way intended to 
offend anyone.  It would be silly of me to take offense where none 
was intended, especially when the clear intent was friendly: to make 
me smile/laugh.  I dare say that a user foolishly hypersensitive 
enough to be upset about the new .sig (either seeing it or sending 
it) would surely be just as (if not more) upset about the old one.

The issue of being stingy with bug-acknowledgements and free software 
refers to my requirement that only those who reported X bona-fide 
bugs (I think 'X' was 5 but I'm don't recall off the top of my head 
since it was bogus anyway) would receive a free copy registration 
that everybody would receive at least a 50% discount.  I further 
qualified that typos and certain pre-existing (hadn't-gotten-around-
to-fixing-them-yet) bugs did not count (I provided a list).  I have 
been in Beta testing groups where large numbers of "testers" were 
merely freeloaders who just used the software as they normally would 
and made little, if any, attempt to actually TEST it (and thus 
found/submitted 0 bugs).  In actual fact, I will be giving ALL of the 
testers (including Harris) a 100% free registration.  The X-bugs rule 
was just a ruse to ensure people were serious about testing.  In hind 
sight, this was probably not necessary as everybody has really dug in 
and done a great job finding those wacky things in the dark corners.

As far as the used-to-work bugs, there were HUGE sections of code 
rewritten and there were a few things which ended up broken which 
used to work.  They'll all be fixed in the end, now that I know 
there's a problem (there were huge sections of code I rerely or never 
use; I only do NEW ARTICLES polling, for example).  To be sure, the 
final cleanup is taking me longer than I had anticipated but I really 
had no idea there'd be such problems in the OS versions for later 
HW.  When I sent the PRC out to the beta team, it was working nearly 
flawlessly on all Handspring and Palm HW/OS up to 3.5.  But everybody 
on later HW/OS has really strange problems, even crashes that I'd 
never experienced!  Please remain patient while I get them all 
fixed.  I hope nobody gets too biased an impression of the udpate 
thinking it is a pile of junk because it isn't.  There are amazingly 
cool additions but I won't get into that because I am just too 
biased.  I just ask that you try it out and judge for yourself when 
it is done.

I'm disappointed to see Harris drop out but I appreciate the effort 
he gave to me and hope he will use and enjoy the update he has earned 
when it is finished.  I also salute his willingless to stand on 
principle (I'd be a hypocrite if I didn't seeing as keeping the 
Christian .sig is a stand on principle on my part).  If only there 
were more thoughtful people WILLING to take a personal stand on 
principle!  No hard feelings Harris; may God richly bless you.

For the record; Harris is no fool; not even for dropping out, not 
even for thinking me a fool.  A man has got to do what a man has got 
to do.  I can fully appreciate that.
