Bootloader MAC address

Hi,

where does the MAC address the boot loader uses come from?

It's not the MAC address of the ethernet card inserted (at least not the one 
windows and linux use while using the same card). And i have read reports 
from other people using the same bootloader and having different mac 
addresses.
