I gues in all doubts one should use the rmk series of the kernel. 
From what I remember I think the agenda looks like this
-Get USB networking working again
-See if devfs still races with ide and pcmcia
-Rework my UCB code. Russel wanted to use Class Device but it still lacks 
routines for suspend and resume
-resolve possible license problem with the mq200 code
-mq200 to not use software algorithms but hardware accelerated ones

PS: Once I've a new AC adapter I'll look into OE and kernel stuff again
