They took it out because of the screen type, having' used a Tungsten T
and a Tungsten T2 and a T3 as well, the T2 and T3 (in my opinion, though
I'm certainly no expert) have better visibility in sunlight or bright
light due to the transflective screen rather than the reflextive screen
and I think they likely took the backlight off function out because of
the screen type, it may need some kind of backlight to be visible.

The T3 in particular has battery life problems that the T2 didn't have
(the T2 also did not have the backlight off function) so I think its the
T3's battery that should be complained about rather than the T3's lack
of backlight turning off.

As far as why would palm do it on a level of customer service?  I have
no idea and nor will any of us really know.  I think that Palm has run
out of ideas to stay ahead of the market, I can safely say that only
modern model I would ever buy is an E2, I won't do a T5 or a LifeDrive.
 Of course, if I see a Zire that follows the palm features I like, then
I'll get it.  However, the features I like are RAM not flash memory or
hard drive, I want the speed of RAM if I want to do backups I'll buy an
SD Card.  I don't want the OS bloated to high hell with features from
Cobalt when they are using Garnet.  Give me Garnet or Cobalt, not both.
 And, I want a Palm that has stood up for enough time for people's apps
to have support for it.

And someone please, dear god, tell me that the Life Drive doesn't suck
as bad as it appears to.
