My own T/T is now over 4 years old, onto it's second battery, and showing no signs at all of digitiser problems. My personal view is that it is related to one of a specific batch of components, a specific production run or the way in which they've been used or treated - to an extent I favour the latter, as to my knowledge there has never been any specific range of serial numbers identified as having the problem, it extends over several models,(including the latest) and some people seem to get through several units with the same problem in rapid succession, whereas others may go for many years without it.
