Thanks to jjohnson873, I have looked into it with his help and it
looks like his PC Cillin now no longer has any warnings when going to
my website. Originally, the link he was referring to, was an
affiliate link ad for Franklin Covey which I *was* an affiliate of via
my account at Commission Junction. I have since removed the bulk of
my affiliate accounts at Commission Junction and Linkshare (since I
never got anything from them anyway).
I have also tried to download and install the PC Cillin from Trend
Micro and it ended up taking an entire day (I'm not kidding!) The
original trial download was 92MB. Trying to install it, it told me to
get all the Microsoft updates. So, fine. I go and download them.
Took forever for the downloads to finish downloading. Then, have them
scan my computer and then install them. That took quite a bit of time
for each service pack. Do the reboots.
Then, PC cillin tells me that it needs to uninstall my anti-virus
program. Okay fine. Takes way too long for the program to first do
its initial "scan". Then, install. Reboots.
This PC Cillin is turning out to be quite a pain for me personally.
While doing the installation, it wants to put something in the
startup. I do a search for the pcguide.exe and not very happy with
what I read, so I didn't allow that to be loaded.
Once it ran, I thought I'd try to do the scan. Big mistake. This
scan took several tries. It would somehow decide to crash mid way
during the scan. Did retry so many times with the same result.
Eventually, after several tries, the scan that took over 3 hours long
finally finished.
During the scan, I really didn't like how this program took so much
resources on my computer:
tmproxy.exe 35,476k
PcScnsrv.exe 33,728k
PcCtlcom.exe 9,732k
TmPfw.exe 7,676k
PccGuide.exe 4,368k
PccVscan.exe 4,008k
Tmntsrv.exe 3,336k
Don't know about you, but that's a lot of resources to allow one
program take up, not to mention that a lot of different parts of the
program need to connect to the internet. I especially did not like
having TMO Agent wanting to connect to the internet every once in a
while. I have Zone Alarm and it tells me every time since I have to
allow programs to access the internet. I'm not sure how "safe" I feel
with a large program that takes up so much resources and wants to
connect to the internet every now and then. So, after all that, I had
to uninstall this and get things back to what it was. And even with
all this effort and time, I couldn't get it to provide me with the
warning or error messages but then it's not surprising since I've been
having lots of problems with this program.
I have Zone Alarm, Spybot Search & Destroy, SpywareBlaster, Adaware
installed and with them, I think that I'm pretty okay. Even if I got
infected with spyware, it's unlikely it can connect to the internet
without me knowing to transmit my personal information out.
But, as I've mentioned, thanks to jjohnson873, it looks like there's
no more "warning" messages on the site.
As for the amount of ads on the site, they do not pay me anything.
They are affiliate ads and I only get money when readers are kind
enough to click on them and purchase products from them. Having them
up on the site may annoy many people but I don't get any money just to
have them up, unlike a lot of other bigger sites which can command a
fee to put up ads. Since hosting and domain aren't free, I need to be
able to find a way to help pay for it. And since nobody has donated,
this is the only way I know that can help me get some money to help
pay for the fees. If I could decrease the amount of ads, I would, but
until I get a steady stream of ad revenues from the affiliate links, I
don't think I can remove them since no one else is paying my bills.
I really do enjoy what I do and I am not expecting to get "paid" for
my work, but I am only hoping to at least not worry about not being
able to keep the site around since I do think that a lot of people
find my site helpful.
Thanks for taking the time to read this posting. Again, I hope that
this can help clarify things. Sorry again to everyone for bothering
the group.
