Fine, apparently your usage pattern is very different from mine. I
hardly ever close applications, there are only a few which I use
regularly and I keep them running all the time.

It depends. Consistency is part of usability, but not the only one. If
a feature gets in the way, then I'd rather have inconsistent rather
than consistently impractical behaviour.

In the ideal operating system for handhelds, any of the big buttons
would be programmable, so if someone wants a "close" button, he can
have it. In fact this would be easy to implement in Qtopia. Perhaps
the OpenZaurus folks will take up that idea.

I don't mind a preference setting, but first I need a way to get around
the forced termination !
