Not able to run apps after flashing ROM

Symptom: When you try to run an apps that you just install via an .ipk
package, the icon itself will show that it's starting (icon has that
"tapped" graphic shown) The hour glass will then appear on the bottom...
but then nothing happens!  The application doesn't start and the hour
glass disappear - as a result nothing happens!

I recent was running TipicME and it just froze so I reboot it.  Well it
got stuck there also (I waited for 3 min.) so I decided to pull out the
battery and have it reflashed.  After I reflash it and re-install these
applicaitions, none of them run anymore.  Anyone have any idea?  This
goes for OPIE ROM also.  Are there steps I forgot to do?  Please help
