I have one of those adapters from Fry's as well.  It really is a 
no-name adapter.  'cardctl ident' shows:

Socket 0:
  product info: "4IN1", "xxMB", ""
  manfid: 0x000a, 0x0000
  function: 4 (fixed disk)
