Bill,

Thanks for all those suggestions and bug reports. I think you might want to
look at this too: http://community.zaurus.com/tracker/?group_id=5 . That is
the official place for bug reports and suggestions for the 3.10 ROM. You
don't need an account to log anything.

Just a couple of comments on what you pointed out:
- In my Documents Tab I can select a file and use cut and then paste to
move it
- In Opera, PDFs are viewed with a plugin, which is why it does not
seemlessly integrate. You want to use qpdf2 to view PDFs anyway, as it's
far superior and you can get Opera to open PDFs from the web in that
automatically.

Many of the rest of what you pointed out are on the Zaurus DevNet Community
pages.

Regards,

Colin

I'm running what's comparable to the 3.10 ROM for SL-5500s on
my SL-5000D.

I really need to send these complaints to Sharp directly, but thought I'd
air them here, too. ;^)

  * Addressbook

    BUG:
      If you don't enter a first/last name (e.g., it's just a company,
      like "Pizza Hut"), then _nothing_ appears as the name in the
      addressbook overview now!

    IDEA:
      Allow auto-fills in addressbook. MOST entries I add are for
      people or businesses in my town. (Same City, State, Zip, Country)

    IDEA:
      Split the address entry form up a little with some horizontal-rules.
      Maybe show the same icons next to entry fields as are shown when
      viewing an entry.

  * Backup/Restore

    COMPLAINT:
      The backup/restore files are of an unknown type to the Zaurus
      document tab. They should either be hidden, or, preferably, they
      should bring up the Backup/Restore app when you tap them.

  * Calendar

    BUG:
      When searching for an event, the calendar only shows the FIRST
      instance of a repeating event.

    BUG:
      It's impossible to delete just ONE instance of a repeating event!
      ARRRGHHH!!!

    IDEA:
      In the 'Hour' pulldowns when adding a new calendar entry, why not
      colorize the text ("08:00", "08:30"...) the same way the blocks of
      time are colorized on the 'Today' overview display? It'd be cool AND
      useful - sometimes it takes me a sec to realize which "08:00" I'm
      looking at.  8am?  or 8pm?

  * Calculator

    BUG:
      Doesn't seem to be affected by the global 'Appearance' settings.

  * To-Do

    COMPLAINT:
      You can no longer 'check off' to-do items with the directional-pad.
      You MUST use the stylus now! :^( Sucks for when I'm grocery
shopping!

    COMPLAINT:
      When viewing a To Do entry, the "Notes" section at the bottom
shouldn't
      appear on the right column. It's WAY too skinny for a block of text.
      Display the text across the entire width of the window!

    IDEA:
      It'd kick-ass to be able to print from the To-Do list.
      I could point my Zaurus at a printer's IR port and have it shoot out
      my grocery list...

    IDEA:
      Show categories in the to-do list overview (along with 'Checked',
      'Priority', 'Description' and 'Due Date'). Allow sorting by
category.
      (Obviously only useful when showing 'All' categories of To Do items)

      (Maybe allow other fields to be shown and sorted by, too.)

    BUG:
      When entering a new To-Do item, the "Notes" entry field doesn't
      word-wrap very well.

    IDEA:
      Allow changing category of a to-do item by tapping-and-holding the
      item in the overview display. (i.e., so you don't have to edit,
      change, click 'ok' over and over, when you need to change the
category
      of lots of items (e.g., accidentally 'Unfiled' ones))

  * Documents Tab

    COMPLAINT:
      There doesn't seem to be a way to _MOVE_ files between
Internal/CF/SD.
      You can only copy, paste, and then delete the original. If you're
      low on internal storage, there's NO way to move a file off of it
      without firing up a terminal and using "mv"!!!

    IDEA: (Also applies to other apps that use the filesystem same
interface)
      Why bother searching for files in the "QtPalmtop" directories on CF
and
      SD cards? Those are usually program-specific files (like a game's
      sound effects and sprites). These files don't appear when the
programs
      are installed on Internal storage. Why show them on CF and SD?

  * Interface

    BUG:
      When headers in sortable columns are too short, you can't see the
      little "^" or "v" arrow, denoting that the column is the one being
      sorted, and how.

    COMPLAINT:
      What the HELL is with sharing all categories with all
applications!?!?
      Why the *%$* would I want a "Groceries" category in my calendar or
      addressbook!? And why would I want a "Relatives" category in
To-Do!?!

    BUG:
      When you can't open a file (e.g., load a text file in the editor)
      due to permissions problems (not readable by the 'normal' Zaurus user
      on the new ROMs), don't just display nothing. Actually MENTION that
      there was a problem, and what it was!

    BUG:
      When scrolling up and down a page at a time (tapping in the
scrollbar),
      if a list item is half-way cut off at the bottom, when you scroll
down,
      it will be half-way cut off at the top! (e.g., you'll never see the
      whole thing at once!)

  * Text Editor

    IDEA:
      Along with small/medium/large fonts in the editor, there should be
      fixed-space fonts, too.

  * Opera

    COMPLAINT:
      The icons in Opera look too similar. They should be different
      colors, and more obviously different shapes. (Really, they should
      look more like the rest of the Qtopia apps)

    COMPLAINT:
      When viewing a PDF in Opera, why is there a PDF-specific Zoom button?
      Why not just re-use the Zoom button/menu that's there all the time?

  * Recalibrate

    IDEA:
      Recalibration is tedious. If you accidentally tap the Recalib. icon
      in the System tab (or forgot what that icon does), you end up having
      to spend a minute tapping the screen. It should ask if you're SURE
      first! :^)

  * Application Key

    IDEA:
      In the pull-down menu of programs you can choose, there should be
      separators, to group the applications based on the tab/Qt-menu
      groupings. Alphabetical might be good as an option, but it's easier
      to find things using the same grouping you're used to navigating by.

  * Add/Remove Programs

    IDEA:
      Show where programs are installed!!! (Internal, CF or SD)
      When I want to install a new app and it NEEDS to go in internal
      memory, it's a guessing game to figure out what apps I can remove
      to free up some space! Just put little "Internal", "CF" and "SD"
      icons next to each program in the "Uninstall" listing.

      (Also maybe put the icons next to package icons in the "Install"
      listing to denote where IPK files are stored...?)

Anyway... just the few irritations and ideas I've had since switching to
the new ROM...

Enjoy! :)
