manual IPK install/uninstall

Some IPKs do not show up in the add/remove programs applet. For such IPKs, what is the procedure to install them from the command line? How can the path to the installed be determined? In case, they need to be uninstalled, what is the procedure? Sorry but I am a newbie to both Linux and my Zaurus 5600. Any clues, suggestions, tips or advise are greatly appreciated. Please advise.
