Greg,

The Sharp Datebook and Addressbook have not been completely deleted. Only
the links to the stuff in ROM have been deleted. Just run the following
commands and it should restore your Sharp apps without wiping anything out.

su (enter the root password, which is the passcode, if it asks)
cd /home/QtPalmtop/bin
ln -sf ./quickexec datebook
ln -sf ./quickexec addressbook
cd /
tar xvf /root/.home_default.tar
home/QtPalmtop/apps/Applications/datebook.desktop
tar xvf /root/.home_default.tar
home/QtPalmtop/apps/Applications/addressbook.desktop
qcop QPE/System 'linkChanged(QString)'
qcop QPE/System 'updateMenu()'

Then the Sharp Datebook and Addressbook should appear on the Applications
tab and Q menu.

(That's another one for me to submit to the FAQ :-)

HTH

Colin

  | Subject: [Zaurus-general] restoring Sharp's datebook and addressbook (deleted by thekompany) |
  >--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|

Hi all,

I have a Zaurus SL-B500 (Japanese SL-5600). I flashed the ROM to 1.5JP ROM,
installed thekompany's tkcCalendar and tkcAddressBook last month, and then
added many other apps and tweaked many settings. I also made annotated
backups religiously every few days.

My problem? Now, after experiencing many problems with the tkc PIM apps,
and
getting tired of their contemptable lack of customer support (ignoring
questions, shutting down the e-mail support list when too many people begin
complaining, deleting posts from the support forum, delays on everything
they promised, . . .), I want to uninstall the tkcCalendar and
tkcAddressBook and go back to Sharp's DateBook and AddressBook, but the tkc
apps DELETED the original Sharp apps.

I searched (notes are below). The original apps really were deleted by the
tkc installs. How can I get the Sharp's datebook and addressbook back?

If I restore a backup from before I added the tkcapps, then I'll have the
original datebook and addressbook back again. This is what Sharp Japan just
told me to do (0120-606-919 domestic phone number). However, everything
I've
installed, and all the settings I've altered would all be lost if I go this
route. There must be another way. Could someone please help me out here?
Here are my ideas:

- Do another ROM flash upgrade. The B500 I have went from
1.0JP ROM, to 1.1, 1.2, and last month 1.5JP ROM. If I simply reflash the
current 1.5 ROM, will I get the Sharp apps back again with everything else
staying the same? Kind of like re-installing Windows, it seems to me.

- Restore the pre-tkc backup, then SOMEHOW make a backup of just the
datebook and calendar, restore the current general backup, and then restore
just the calendar and datebook. Can this be done?

- install the ipk for the US 5600 versions of calendar and datebook. The
tkcROM extracted these so they could be installed separately. However, I
would much rather have the current Japanese addressbook and datebook than
the version 1.0 US ones. Comments?

- get a hold of Japanese ipk packs for the datebook and addressbook. Sharp
said these don't exist. That's hard to fathom, and really lame.

Can anyone give me some ideas of what I can do? Any other choices?
