Sorry, forgot to include that. SL-5500, with the ROM that came with it, 
whatever that is (where can I find out about it anyway? are there upgrades?).

Well, to add to my question, if I can sync with my Linux desktop, that's even 
better. So far from what I read, I have to get a new kernel. I'm reluctant to 
do that since this is pretty much a production machine for our development 
projects. Can I just sync using something like SSH connection anyway?
