can't SSH, can't telnet, can't do nothing to Z

Hello,
I'm about to pull my hair out here. I hope someone can give me some insight
I've installed SSH server to the Z. First, I tried Win2000 to use as the 
desktop, and I can SSH and sync just fine with it. 
Then, since my primary desktop is Linux, I installed usbdnet module to my 
kernel following the instruction here:
http://humphrey.applitec.com/zaurus/
with the hope that I can use it to connect to my Z. The most thing I need is 
to be able to SSH to the Z and transfer file that way. If that works, I would 
just be happy. If Qtopia desktop can work and sync with no much further work, 
that would be a nice side effect, so I think.... 

I can see from my desktop "ifconfig" I have usb0 connection. I can ping it. 
But I can't SSH to it. It would just give:
ssh_exchange_identification: connection closed by remote host

So I enabled Z' telnet from /etc/inetd.conf and restart 
"/etc/rc.d/init.d/inetd restart"
Still no luck, telnet gives connection closed by remote host also. Then from 
the desktop I did: "nmap 192.168.129.201" and it showed that ssh and telnet 
ports are open. I tried to play around with configu in Settings -> Network 
and Sync and still has no luck, so I deleted my entry there.

I can't figure out where is the log message for all this activity. So I 
plugged the Z's craddle back to Win2000 and was planning to SSH to it for 
easier debugging. Now, I cannot even SSH, Sync, or do anything with the Z 
from Win2000, which used to work before. What in the world has gone wrong ??
