I just received my Kinesis Advantage USB keyboard with single foot pedal. I keep hitting "-" when I want enter - that's probably the worst problem right now. But it's certainly not the only one. Feels like you do everything with your thumbs!! Credit to ergocanada.com for being very helpful on the phone and delivering quickly (although my landlord got the package, put it in his hallway, and left the country for a week ...). I'm not entirely happy with Kinesis's decision to make the F-keys nasty squishy small keys, but a particular warning to vi users: they did the same thing to the Escape key. Which you may have been astute enough to notice, but I wasn't. (For those who don't know vi, vi users hit the Escape key quite frequently.) I've always hit "Esc" without looking: it's right at the corner of the keyboard. This is no longer going to be possible. I'm thinking of remapping the keys to swap Esc and Delete - I rarely use Delete, and it has a very prominent position under the left thumb. Anyone have thoughts on this? Or anyone who's had to deal with this come up with a solution they're happy with? My speed on a standard keyboard was ~65 wpm when I got the Kinesis. First test on the Kinesis ran about 35 wpm, already up to ~45 wpm after a bit of practise, so the transition - while jarring at first - is going pretty well. -- Giles http://www.gilesorr.com/ [email protected]
