Yes, I understand your point about the thumbs but, that's part of the
design--now your thumbs get involved. The re-mapping feature goes a long
way. In addition to moving my numbers to the Dvorak layout, I have space
and backspace switched, and all three Apple option keys (command,
option, and control) are on both sides. So, I lose the "home" and "page
up" key. HOWEVER, those keys are still in their original place if I use
the keypad layer (with the button or foot switch)

I don't use the escape key much but I can see it being a problem if you
do. one of these days I do need to send mine in to get it repaired F6,
F7, and F8 no longer work. Everything else is fine. Not bad for a
keyboard that has had continuous use since 1996 (or somewhere around there).

Speed will come, but more importantly, comfort will come.
