I should have read your email more closely: what you're suggesting probably
requires rooting but almost certainly doesn't require Cyanogen mod.  My
/system/usr/keylayout/ folder has 13 files in it (cutting and pasting is
something I haven't mastered on Android yet, so the list will have to
wait).  Do you recall which of these you modified, and what did you put in
it?  Did you write the file yourself or did you download it from somewhere?
