I have used FITALY for many years on iPAQs and computers built in to my cars
with touchscreens. The most commonly used letters are centered on a square
keyboard, works reasonably well.

My favourite the past years though have been MessagEase. Nine large keys, which
you tap to access the most used letters, and then slide on to reach letters and
symbols. It is great to not have all these small "keys" to hit :)
