If I had hardware up, I would.
I've got a TEK TDS-420, so no problem grabbing the data.

I think the AVR studio does sim SPI. I remember seeing it do that.
I also vaguely remember something just a little tricky in setting up the SPI, but I don't remember what it was. 
Certainly making SCK an output is part of it, and /SS being high.
