The serial interface isn't really clocked.  However, it's in theory
possible that the programmer could supply the clock as well, and I
seem to remember that I've once seen a cable pinout for an ISP
connector/device that supplied XTAL1, too.  The downside is that this
will be a lot slower than running from a separate (1...4 MHz)
oscillator.
