Both avrfreaks and avr-gcc-list serve their purposes.

AVRFreaks is very good at serving new users, better than avr-gcc-list 
I'm afraid. I've seen a number a new users who can't/don't get as much 
help on avr-gcc-list than on 'Freaks. I think it all depens on who is 
listening in on the list at the time and has relevant information.
