RE: Can open Specs

Hi Dinesh,

I think that CANOpen is similar to VSCP in the same way that say CANOpen is
similar to DeviceNet or J1939 or NMEA 2000 or MilCAN or (place your own
automation network here).

I don’t believe that comparisons are accurate or help in understanding a
protocol you are trying to learn. The problem is that if everything you
read is referenced back to whether it’s the same or different from X you
miss the ‘why’ of the design.

It’s easy to fall into the trap of the self-taught ‘expert’ busy trying to
teach themselves something new. The trap is that you don’t know what you
don’t know and that makes it difficult to decide what you need to learn.

It’s a subtle detail but I don’t believe there’s any value in knowing or
understanding VSCP or J1939 in order to learn about CANOpen. And in fact it
can get in the way.

John Dammeyer.

Subject: Re: [CANLIST] Can open Specs

Hi,

Last few days i was going through the specification of CANopen its almost
similar to VSCP with little diffrence.
Now i just want to check how stack for can open is implemented at s/w level.

I was looking for an canOPEN open stack for AVR & reached here CANfestiva.
Is it right one ?

es/AVR/Slave?at=default

es?at=default

1> To use this stack do we have to write our own driver & call following
function :---
canInit(CAN_BAUDRATE);

2> Also example for AVR is slave device. Where is the master here ?
Do we have to implement it in GUI.

Did Anyone tried it ?

This is not the latest one, but OK for a beginner.
If you don't use it to implement something but only for first studies
I think it's OK to start with.
