Hi Simon, I used 10k and 20k bps for my CANRF product but that's only because the On Off Keying modulation could not support the RF transceiver turning around any faster than that bit rate. In fact 433Mhz meant 10kbps and 916Mhz meant at most 20kbps. Bitwise arbitration at higher rates would fail because the receiver would still be saturated from a previous transmitted dominant bit. Back in 2000, for power line Super CAN our maximum bit rate was 100kbps but initial testing was done at 20kbps for the arbitration section and then the data could be modulated at 10Mbps. Our data part supported a wide variety of modulation techniques to allow other venders to insert their own protocol but initially we just used the standard 11898 drivers and ran 2.5Mbps and data packets up to 2048 bytes. We carried Ethernet 1550 byte packets inside the Super CAN messages and transmitted real time live Video along with standard 11 bit and 29 bit CAN messages. So 20kbps is really only useful if it's a very noisy environment or a long distance. John Dammeyer "ELS!
