ODO meter from Euro 4 Engines over J1939

Hey All, 

Does anybody have experience working with Truck Engine ECUs?

I wanted to check how reliable are the Odo meter readings sent by ECUs on
J1939? 

Recently, I have been doing some development. 
On lot of Truck Engines, The Odo meter data from ECU and the one shown on
dashboard digitally are different. 

Is the odo meter shown on dashboard is counted by some other controller and
method than Engine ECU?


Would be great to have your experiences and comments.
