Re: Cisco 6509 vs Juniper EX 8208

Ayni sorunla simde ben karsi karsiyayim. VSS ile ilgili bir iki reference 
aldim ama software update islemi beni biraz korkutuyor. O yuzden 2 tane 
standalone 6509 (sup 720 non VSS ) ile 8208 arasinda secim yapacagim. 
HSRP, VTP, STP zor da olsa calisanlar bilgi sahibi  oldugu icin daha kolay 
destek alacagini dusunuyorum. Bir de en onemli sey yeni platforma nasil 
gececegin ve bir sey calismazsa neye "fall back " yapacagin. Bu bence 
secimde en onemli karar noktasi. Mesela ben 2 tane 6509 alip eski 6509 
larla trunk yapip VLAN bazinda ESX serverlari tasimayi dusunuyorum.
Bu arada su anda ESX serverlar 6509 na direk bagli, bu yeni tasarimda 
onlari 4900M switchlere (Nexus degil !!) bagliyacagim ve backbone 
switchinde yapilan tak/cikar islemlerini onleyecegim, yani uzun vadede 
backbone switche sadece edge ve access switchler bagli olacak.
4900M 10 Gbps uplink ile 6509 baglamayi dusunuyorum, iki switch arasindada 
2 * 20 Gbps baglanti kuracagim. 
Haftaya 8208 e yakindan bakacagim.

Arkadaslar Merhaba;

Backbone da kullanmak icin 2 adet switch alip tum edge switchleri ve 
sunucularin bir kismini bunlar uzerine koymak ve routing & switching 
islemlerini buraya yuklemek istiyorum. Mevcut core switch de line card 
larin girisleri 6gbps ve 2. Core switch ile arasindaki uplink hizi surekli 
darbogaz yaratiyor. Yeni 2 tane switch almaya karar verdim fakat 6509 ile 
8208 arasinda kaldim. 

6509 yillardir kullanilan bir model ve cok da sorun cikarmiyor. Hatta VSS 
ile stp ve hsrp gibi islerle ugrasmaktan kurtulacagimi dusunuyor. Fakat 
VSS kullanan hicbir referans bulamadim turkiye de. Bu da biraz urkek 
bakmami sagliyor. Ayrica 6509 uzerinde line card half dublex modunda 
20gbps veriyor, buda 48 portlu bir modulu non-blocking olarak 
calistiramayacagim anlamina geliyor. Datasheet I inceledigimde bahsedilen 
mpps lere yada linecard ici sup a gitmeden konusmalara DFC karti almadan 
ulasilamayacagini soyluyor. Sonuc olarak VSS kullanan kisiler ve problem 
cikarip cikarmayacagini test eden kisiler beni aydinlatirsa sevinirim.

Bir diger yanda ise 8208 var. gercekten cok guclu bir alet gibi duruyor. 
6.2tbps switching kapasitesi oldugu yaziyor. Saniyede 2.5tbps routing ve 
960mpps gibi degerleri var. en onemlisi ise line card hizi full duplex de 
320gbps. Bunlara bakinca ancak nexus ile karsilastirilacak gibi duruyor. 
Fakat korktugum bircok yani var. mesela bildigim kadariyla vtp yerine gvrp 
destekliyor. Yani vlan dagitimini birakin buradan dagitmayi her switchin 
arasinda bu oldugu icin transparan bir sekilde bile calistiramayacagim. 
Ayrica stp hsrp gibi durumlardan dolayi birde bunlarla ugrasmaya devam 
edecegim. Server teaming cisco da 2 farkli chassis e yapilarak tam 
redundancy saglanabiliyor fakat burada bu mumkun olmayacak. Ve bircok 
protocol eksikligi yasayacagim. Herseyin en onemlisi sanirim juniper in 
backbone tarafindaki ilk musterisi ben olacagim. 

Bu sartlar altinda juniper kullanir isem edge switchlerim ile (hepsi 3560 
3-5 tane 2960 ve 3750 var) sorunlar yasarmiyim yasar isem hangi durumlar 
olabilir. Fikirlerinize cok onem veriyor olacagim.
