Bence herhangi bir testte management, control ve data plane'lerini ayýrmakta
fayda var.

Throughput testlerinin, daha çok data plane üzerinde yapýlmasý gerektiðini
düþünüyorum. L2 loop ile oluþturulan trafik gerçek dünyadakine göre farklý
olacaktýr. Özellikle de oluþan sonsuz çevrimde ARP gibi control plane'e ait
trafik olduðu zaman, control plane'deki problemler sonucu data plane'in
etkilenmesi, throughput testlerini olumsuz etkileyecektir. Cihazlarý bu
þekilde karþýlaþtýrmak her zaman doðru sonucu vermez. Performansý düþük
çýkan üretici firma itiraz edecektir (ben olsam ederdim) :)

Örneðin 7600-RSP'ye gerekli önlemleri almazsanýz cihazýn kendisine 10Mbps
trafik yollasanýz bile "gider". Fakat bir 7600 slot baþýna 40Gbps kapasiteye
sahiptir. ASR9k-RSP ise by default korumalýdýr. Siz kaldýrmadýðýnýz sürece
gigabitlerce trafiði (kendisine doðru) kaldýrabilir...

Konudan çok uzaklaþmayalým, throughput testleri, test ettiðiniz cihazdan
daha kapasiteli ve ölçme hassasiyeti daha yüksek bir cihaz kullanýlarak
yapýlabilir. Bu baðlamda IPERF'in çok yardýmcý olabileceðini sanmýyorum.
Tabii amaç test edilen sistemin teorik limitlerini görmek deðilse IPERF de
iþe yarayacaktýr.

Data plane performansýný test ederken hem PPS hem de BW testleri yapmakta
fayda var. PPS testlerinde minimum frame size kullanmak gerekir. BW testleri
yaparken de inter-frame gap'e dikkat etmek gerekir.

Biz bu tür testler için Network Tester & Traffic Generator ürünleri
kullanýyoruz. Piyasa son dönemde konsolide oldu. Eskiden Agilent, Smartbits,
Ixia ve Spirent vardý. Bu firmalar birbirini aldý ve geriye sadece Ixia ve
Spirent kaldý. Dört üreticiden de farklý tür cihaz kullanma fýrsatý buldum,
hiçbiriyle ilgili ciddi problem çýktýðýný hatýrlamýyorum...
