I personally recommend Kaplan's "Understanding
GPS: Principles and Applications" as a reference.

If you just want to skim how GPS software works, 
try "A Complete IF Software GPS Receiver: 
A Tutorial about the Details" by Kent Krumvieda:

It's one of the best introductory papers I've 
ever found on the web.
