Handheld open source GPS receiver

Hello,

I would like to ask, did anybody ever tried to find the information about 
Motorola MCore based MMC2002/MMC2003 CPUs with integrated GPS correlator? As 
far as I understand, something like this CPUs are used in Magellan GPS 
handheld receivers (GPS 3xx, Sportrack and Meridian, at least). I think it 
would be quite exciting idea to write an open source GPS software to replace 
the current proprietary firmware.

Any comments?
