Hi, thanks for the info and sorry the delay. I thought about the
situation and came to following idea:

I tried to reproduce where the error comes from.

I downloaded the original Boot-Install-Image-File:
ubuntu-mate-18.04-desktop-amd64.iso
sha256-checksum:
7bb3607d6fa3f6791c24d8236a0953498081b0ed21454b8aa199bf6a40701fef

I booted the Ubuntu 18.04. LTS iso-image

Ubuntu showed the „try or install“ window

I selected „try ubuntu“ to have a clean state of the ubuntu os without
any possible misconfiguration. This means that there is no
misconfiguration of my existing ubuntu installation because the "bug"
happens also on the Live-CD.

the steps i did:

I opened Terminal & typed
sudo apt-get update

I Installed the lirc package and its dependencies via terminal
sudo apt-get install lirc

No config-menu showed up.

and I entered following command to reconfigure lirc

sudo dpkg-reconfigure lirc

no lirc-conf-menu showed up and no error-message. Just nothing.

Any ideas how to solve this or what I can do?

Thanks and regards,
Thomas
