Hi, I am new to lirc. I installed it on a raspberry pi 3b+ running Raspbian GNU/Linux 9.8 (stretch) with the current production kernel 4.19. I installed the current release of lirc, 0.9.4c. I mad the required changes to config.txt and lirc_options.conf. After rebooting, the device /dev/lirc0 was missing and of course, lirc wouldn't run. After much research and experimentation, I discovered that if I downgraded my kernel to 4.14.98, the /dev/lirc0 device magically reappeared and lirc runs fine. I repeated this several times to be sure. For now, I will not perform and kernel upgrades. I am new to Linux as well and don't know if the problem needs to be corrected in the kernel or in lirc. If additional information is needed, I will be happy t supply it. Best regards, Ken Kayser Tobaccoville, NC <mailto:[email protected]> [email protected]
