While power problems can be subtle, unless you're drivning large loads with the outputs, I don't think that its likely to be a power impedance problem. I've certainly gotten away with awful power wiring in th past, and that's with about 40 mA of loads on outputs. Where I did see a problem similar to what you describe was when I left MCLR floating. (I was pretty new to PICs, and wanted to avoid having to disconnect MCLR from the rest of the circuit for reprogramming.) That was with a 16F84, several years ago. It's conceivable that your bread board has enough leakage to +V to make things OK. I've heard various suggestions for MCLR in this discussion, but unless it's connected to a long lead, I think that a 10K pullup is enough. It worked for me. My application was battery operated, drove a speaker and an LED. I also learned that pulling all unused inputs up or down helps with power consumption in sleep, just in case that's interesting. Bill
