Simulating C code in a PIC in Linux

What is the alternative to using GPSIM and SDCC to simulate C code on a PIC in Linux?  I'm not getting anywhere with the GPSIM/SDCC combo and need to find an alternative.

Here's the situation:

I'm trying to simulate C code in a PIC using Linux.  In antiX M8.2, I installed GPSIM and SDCC from the repository and set out to complete Micah Carrick's exercise at http://www.micahcarrick.com/04-25-2005/pic-c-programming-linux.html .

In the previous exercise simulating Assembly code for a PIC, I was able to see the arrow pointing to the code.

But for this exercise simulating C code for a PIC, I'm NOT seeing the arrow pointing to the code even though the breadboard window shows what I expect to see.  I can't debug any code if I can't see exactly what part of the code is being executed.

This means that GPSIM and SDCC are useless to me.  This is a case where being 95% correct is just as bad as being 0% correct.  Either I get this issue straightened out, or I find an alternative.
