Hi Sal, Capacitor ESR probably means nothing in this application. Your transformer will generally be the limiting factor to capacitor current. With an EI transformer, the peak current is limited even if turn-on is at the worst part of the phase(zero volts). With a toroid, the core of the transformer will apply a big shock very soon if turn-on is at zero volts, but the peak current will be on the transformer, not to the output where your capacitors are. So, no problem. Is using the solid caps a problem? I understand they have a reduced impediance and am worried about the power on current initially charging the cap and during each half cycle when the caps charge back up. Thank you.
