This is related to a mature commercial product. Passivation of our Li-SOCl2
batteries when things go wrong (factory messes up, or firmware bug, or
whatever) has been an issue on and off for years.

We typically don't (we can't) keep spare batteries around for more than a
month or two because they go bad so quickly, and wasting them would be
expensive.

We are looking to change that by storing them with passivation protection
current applied.
