Thanks for posting this! I always found the application notes from LT and
Maxim to be great reading. And the application engineers were accessible.
I remember reading an application note on interfacing to photodiodes. I
talked with the author, and he steered me in the right direction for the
preamp in a product that needed to receive FSK RF over IR. That product is
still in production 15 years later.

As I recall, the LT application notes were bound into copies of Electronic
Design magazine. Electronic Design and EE Times were great for discovering
new ideas.
