Followup to the ignition on a gas cooktop. Four burners, the left two have 800 ohms between ignition electrodes, same with the right burners. But no connection between left and right electrodes, and no connection to ground. My thought is that there are two ignition coils, one for left, one for right. The coils have one HV wire("positive") for a front burner, the other wire("negative") for a rear burner. Ground is not part of the coils, and is only used as a path for the spark current between two electrodes. Both coils are fired at the same time, driving all four spark electrodes. And if any electrode is shorted to ground, it only increases the spark for it's mate.

Clever. Reminds me a bit of the ignition coil on my Miata MX-5, where there are two ignition coil windings in the same package, but driving four spark plugs. In this case alternating between the two windings, driving two spark plugs at a time. I had a Mustang with a similar setup, and it actually had half the spark plugs designated positive and the others negative, with different part numbers. I replaced them with plugs that had iridium on both the center and ground electrode.
