Well, I've found that there's lots of housekeeping to do on the server 
side, much of which an HTTP server conveniently takes care of for you.  
I would say that servlets are an excellent solution for interfacing to 
remote sensors.

There are a few more classes to worry about for a full-blown HTTP 
server and servlet container than the two you mention below, but the 
learning curve is not too steep.  I've included a tutorial in the 
Tynamo distribution that should help you surmount this.
