One other thought - if your code is in NVRAM and you are also storing large 
files there, you will run out at some point and have no NVRAM left for 
heap. The Runtime methods will tell you if that is happening.

So you could store your code in flash to free up more NVRAM.

Also be sure you are using a TINI with 1 MByte of NVRAM.

Send off your files via ethernet before they get too large?

Just some (obvious) ideas of which you are probably already aware...
