Network parameter initialization on TINI

All, I am looking for ways to initialize network parameters in a TINI. Ideally, I would like to have some way to set static network parameters for an uninitialized TINI attached to an arbitrary network (supposing I know its MAC address). For example: I have a Linksys wireless ethernet bridge. Its setup program, run on a PC, finds the uninitialized ethernet bridge on my network, without any setup from me, and allows me to set various parameters. An attempt to monitor the operation using Ethereal showed nothing... whatever the setup program did appears to have run below the radar, unless I am missing something. I am, as a former history teacher once remarked, "plumbing the depths of ignorance" on networking. Would appreciate any suggestions on ways to do this.
