TINI - promiscous mode

Hey,
I am a student at ASU and for one of my class projects I am trying to develop a
Network Intrusion Detection System on TINI. In order to do this I need to set
the ethernet controller on the TINI board to promiscous mode, but i could not
find anything in the Java API that lets me do that. 
If anyone has an suggestinos or ideas that might help me, please let me know.
