ICMP disabling

Will placing the DS80C400's MAC in loopback mode prevent it from responding to an ICMP ping? I am trying to figure out a way of disabling ICMP responses on the MAC by setting some bits in the CSR/BCU registers, since there is nothing in the TCP/IP built-in stack that allows this. I am working in Keil's C platform by the way. Thanks.
